The Niagara Falls Music and Art Festival is pleased to announce the four individuals that will serve as judges on our Awards Panel. Today we introduce:
Jay Carrier was born on the Six Nations Reservation to Onondaga / Tuscarora parents. His influences as an artist developed at an early age as he was surrounded by the arts, indigenous skills, and the decorative crafts with which his extended family is involved, learning the power of art and the message that could be conveyed through words, two-dimensional and three-dimensional objects. His family moved to Niagara Falls when he was young, which created his understanding of the duality of his existence and identity. His education in the arts began just as the Native American Center for the Living Arts (the Turtle) opened. Jay’s education continued through the southwestern and Midwestern United States, and after earning his MFA he returned home to the Niagara Frontier where he currently works as an artist in residence at the Niagara Arts & Cultural Center, exhibiting at many esteemed galleries and museums.
